Jennie Crawls

Swinging Time, Climbing Time, Fun Time

Run little Jennie, run!

Boys Fishing Trip? I didn't see any fish.

BBQ

The Foutz came to pick up their mail, so we thought, why not BBQ? We'll use any excuse to combine my two favorite things, outdoors and food. Doug is usually in charge of the coal lighting and whatnot, but we managed without him (thanks Isaac). I was pretty impressed with the spread.

Sophia's curls

I got so many compliments the day we did these curls. She really is a doll.

They're gone, and I'm green, and a little bit paranoid

Doug, Dalton, and Joseph have left the building. They're headed down to AZ for a Nelson boys fishing trip. They've got movies, junk food, their blankies, and Doug's new i-touch toy, (his fanciest fathers day yet!) to keep them busy on the way long drive.

I for one am so glad that we decided to purchase a 2nd car just the other day so I don't have to be car-less for the weekend. Okay we got it so that I could have some "me" time on Saturdays, and so that Doug could work out more often, and so that we wouldn't find ourselves in the one-car-bind that we've been in for most of our marriage. With all 6 of us actually having schedules to keep up with now, it became a must.

On a green note, I've felt that we were doing our part to have Doug use public transit for all but 1 1/2 years of his University years. Other than the bus and shuttle, I haven't done much else for our environment. Well since the car purchase, the guilt, and desire for a better future has motivated me to replace all of my [burnt out] bulbs with the new energy saving kind, and the kids are taking a bag of recyclables out each day. It seems like a lame time to be buying a second car with the gas prices and the ozone layer and the poor penguins, but we can't be expected to be perfectly green all of the time right?

I hope the boys have a great time, and return to me safely. And if there are any psycho blogger stalkers who have found out where we live, and know that I'm Doug-less, I'll have you know that I have the best neighbors in the whole wide world, and not Isaac, Layne or Ike will let you harm the girlies across the courtyard.

Sleep tight.

Raging Waters

We got a Raging Waters season pass (it was $100 off the regular price if you bought it in the middle of winter). I went with the kids all by my limpy legged self last week, and didn't manage any photos. This weekend, Doug had time, so we all went, and had a blast! One of the best parts of a season pass is that we can head home before we're all beyond exhaustion, so we leave happy, even if I have to bribe my kids into the van.

I like your sunglasses.

I like your tongue.

I like my daddy.

Sophia spun and twirled all day in the belly button deep water.

Joe mastered the Dinosaur Island slides.

I didn't get any pics of Dalt on the big slides, but he loved 'em! He had fun on the kiddie slides too.

My Papa

I have the best dad in the whole wide world.

You know the color code personality test, the one where white = quiet, passive, red = strong, opinionated, blue = friendly, lovey, and yellow = fun, fun. Well, my dad is something like ALL yellow, and probably some blue. Every fun childhood memory of mine comes from him, and the fun in me as a grown woman is all from him too.

I remember in the super cold Vernal winters, my dad owned a huge snow shoveling truck. He would shovel parking lots all night long, and then come home and shovel all of the snow from our block into our yard to make the biggest and best sledding hill for my brother and I. I knew even then that he must have been tired from working the night, but he still took the time to make some fun for us.

My childhood bus stop was right by our house, and kids would come early just so they could have Jack's pancakes before school. I don't remember if their parents knew that they did this, or if he knew to expect them, but he always had plenty, and we had the cool house.

On random days during High School, Papa would show up in the middle of class to take me out to lunch. I never knew when it was going to happen, so my friends weren't sure if something was wrong, but when I'd return for my afternoon classes with a full belly and a smile, my friends were so jealous.

Every year I can remember, and even since I've left home, my papa has given me one of those small heart shaped boxes of chocolate for "Valentimes" Day. He even sent one to me while I was in Jerusalem, and the postage on that little box was probably 10 times what he paid for the chocolates. I knew that my mom always got one of the HUGE boxes, and flowers, and to go out to dinner, but somehow he managed to make me feel like his "valentime" every single year.

His fun has been passed down to the next generation too. My kids all know that when he comes, he'll have a treat, (he even gets extra airline goodies just for them). He's always willing and ready to head up to the park, and takes them for walks every afternoon.

He's invited all of the boys on a fishing trip this week. Doug, Dalton and Joseph will be heading down, (10+ hour drive) to bond, fish and of course have a blast with my brothers, nephews, and my Papa. I am so happy that my kids childhood is filled with their Grandpa's love, and fun. My sister and I are both crazy jealous!

I've edited out about a hundred fabulous stories and can tell that I'll have to write some more another time. For now, I'm pretty sure that everyone has wished on one occasion or another that my dad was theirs. He is the funnest, and the best! Happy Fathers Day Papa, I love you!

Stop Thief!

Policeman, policeman,
Help me please.
Someone went and stole my knees.
I'd chase him down but I suspect
My feet and legs just won't connect.

~Shel Silverstien

Yeah, the dangers of jumping rope, doing laundry (down, and up, and down and up the stairs) and walking (while pushing a double stroller and carrying a 70+ pound 6 year old on my back) have seriously encroached upon my life this past week.

Ice and ibuprophin are my staples.

X-rays are scheduled after Doug and the boys return from AZ.

Marriage Tag

Aaaaaah, I've been tagged. I never officially did Tasha's tag, (what's in your bag). Sorry. Here goes.

1) How long have you been married? Almost 10 years (this December I'm hoping for a cruise... we'll see)

2) How old is your spouse? 32 (14 1/2 months older than me)

3) Who eats more? Ice Cream, Doug. Bread, me.

4) Who said I love you first? Probably me, but could you believe I don't remember???

5) Who is taller? Doug says he's 6 feet tall, but he's not. Either way he's taller than me.

6) Who sings better? Hymns, me. Led Zepplin, Sublime, or the Doors, Doug.

7) Who is smarter? Every day, get things done, in a street kind of way, me. In every other way, Doug is smarter.

8) Who controls the T.V. remote? Me for sure. Doug and his friends joke about the TLC, HGTV, and FOOD shows their wives make them watch. He's good to me.

9) Whose temper is worse? Dougs is hotter, and mine is sharper. But we're both working on it.

10) Who does the laundry? All 9 steps you mean? Well, the kids put the dirty clothes in the basket. Doug hauls it down to the basement. I sort, and wash. Dalton switches and dries. I fold, and we all put away. Whew, it's exhausting to even write about it.

11) Who does the dishes? Me most of the time. Dalton is learning to load, and Joseph does a pretty good job of unloading. Doug does the eating.

12) Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? Most of the time I do, but I also like to switch things up every once in awhile, and Doug doesn't seem to mind.

13) Who cooks dinner? I do most of the time, but Doug isn't opposed.

14) Who is more stubborn? Hands down, Doug!

15) Who is the first to admit when they are wrong? We're both pretty good after we've cooled down.

16) Who has more friends? Me, me, me! I'm friends with people I meet at the store, and all of the mail carriers that come through our little neighborhood. Doug has gone to school with guys for 9 years and not even known their names, it's wild.

17) Who has more siblings? Even steven. Crawfords = 4 boys 2 girls, Nelsons = 4 boys 2 girls.

18) Who wears the pants in the family? Day to day decisions are made by me. Life altering course corrections are made by Doug.

Now, as far as tagging someone else... consider yourself tagged if you knew Sherrie Nelson. Yeah, that means you.

Schools Out!

The day was awesome with magic shows, parties, and the grand finale... Family Fun Festival.

Sophia went down the HUGE bouncy slide and was terrified. For the rest of the eve, she stuck to the bounce house.

Joe didn't do the slide the boring old fashioned way, nope, he went head first.

Dalt was all over the place, but I was still able to catch him in the inflatable obstacle course.

The smell of popcorn and cotton candy was intoxicating, we just had to get some for Sophia.

Soph wasn't the only one to enjoy a little cotton. Want proof?

Jennie is 8 months old

Jennie is attempting to climb up the bookshelves and end tables.

She finally showes her teeth while she plays pat-a-cake with daddy.

And, she is crawling... well just barely, but that's how it starts right? .

Jennie is such a happy girl.

Gloomy cool weather +

bread pudding.

My house smells yummy.

New Toy

So I've figured out and typed up a daily and weekly plan for each summer day. It's pretty loose, but has the structure we will all need in order to have anything to show for these next 2 1/2 months. Simply put, we wake, eat, clean, learn, and then play each day, in that order, no matter what.

I then did a detailed list of jobs that each of the kids are capable of doing without supervision. Dalt can do 17 jobs, Joseph can do 15 jobs, and Sophia is capable of doing 6. They're not in charge of doing them all each day, we're just looking at a list of possibilities when one of them says, "But I can't do anything else, mom." Oh, yes you can.

One of our biggest jobs is floors. With dark carpet, every single crumb jumps out to scream, "your carpet is not clean, na, na, na, na-na." I hate it, and have just pretty much given up floors entirely because of it. I do get to the floors about once a week, but I don't get to all of them once a week, so the upstairs, and basement look pretty neglected by the time the vacuum makes the up or down stair trek. Sad.

So in an effort to have all 3 of the kids help with the job that only Dalt, Doug and I have handled over the years, I bought a dirt devil. It's just what you think, small, chargeable, easy to use, and kid friendly. I'm hoping it'll keep Jennie's under-the-high-chair scraps at bay. So far, Joseph likes this new toy, and that's a good thing.

"Out" to dinner

Joseph let us know ahead of time that he wanted lasagna for his birthday dinner, and then this afternoon he decided that he'd rather go "out" to dinner. Today being the sabbath, I cheerfully suggested we take the lasagna "out" to the swings, and Joseph thought that was "out" enough for him. I think I love 6 year olds.
